2 Alternative Treatments For Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is actually the main cause of missed work hours in the US. It's also a leading cause of disability claims. Back pain can also keep a person from living a normal life. Those people also spend a lot of time in and out of doctors' offices trying to find a way to deal with their lower back pain. That includes taking a lot of painkillers as well as the possibility of having to have surgery, which may or may not work. However, there are other things that people with lower back pain can try. There are many people who have found that they have gotten results using non-traditional treatments, like the ones below:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice. It is based on the theory that each person has energy called qi that runs through their body. When the qi is out of balance, it can cause various illnesses and problems. One way to handle those problems is to get the qi back into balance by applying some sort of pressure to the areas of the body that correspond to the problems. Usually, that pressure is applied by using very fine needles and inserting them in that spot. The needles help to clear up the blockages in the qi channels and help to cure the problems. Because the needles are so fine, there generally isn't any pain at the insertion point, and they aren't inserted very deeply. There is also acupressure, which uses the same theories, but involves using pressure on those points instead of needles.

Chiropractic Treatments

The thought behind chiropractic treatment is that the problems with the lower back are caused by the spine being out of alignment. That puts too much pressure on the spine and surrounding nerves and muscles. The best way to help release that pressure and deal with the lower back pain is to use a series of stretches, manipulations, and adjustments that work to bring the spine back into the proper alignment, and restore its natural curve. It generally takes several treatments, because making too many changes all at once can bring on more issues. Muscles get used to being in that particular position, and causing them to get back to the way they should be immediately can lead to the fix not staying at all.

People with lower back pain just want to feel better. They want to have their normal life back. One way to do this is to look for the alternative treatments listed above.
